Latest news is she's to be slipped again in a week ....

Major refit coming up in preparation for the trip across the Tasman and her cruising future ahead as Mahalo ...

Mast out for re-rigging:
  • existing 1/19 rigging wire to be replaced with Hamma wire of same diameter (smoother outer finish & 30% stronger!)
  • main topping lift which used to be required for the original Dutchman flaking system to get lost in the process (ie. not to be replaced)
  • existing 1/19 wire running backstays for staysail to be replaced with lightweight Dyneema
  • additional Spinnaker halyard to be fitted to the starboard side
  • existing Raytheon Pathfinder Analog radar scanner to be replaced with new Raymarine RD418HD High Definition Digital radar scanner
  • existing radar reflector below radar scanner to be replaced with a GME AE2000 TV antenna
  • coax feed to existing masthead VHF marine antenna to be replaced
  • all sheaves, fittings, lights etc to be thoroughly checked and replaced if required
  • high density rubber plug to be pushed up into base of mast to be level with top of sealing boot and sealed in place and weep hole drilled above sealing boot to allow any water entering the mast to exit above deck rather than down the keel stepped mast and into the bilges.
Propellor shaft out for inspection and:
  • existing Stuffing Box to be replaced with a PSS Shaft Seal
  • existing fixed 3 bladed prop to be replaced with a 3 bladed KiwiProp feathering prop with existing prop retained as spare along with 3 spare replaceable blades for the new Kiwiprop
Rudder out for inspection and:
  • upper and lower bearings to be replaced
Routine anti-fouling.

Gas system to be checked and made compliant with AS/NZ standards:
  • shut-off solenoid to be replaced
  • spare "alloy" gas cylinder to be replaced
Engine to be serviced and thoroughly checked:
  • all filters, oil and fan belt to be changed
  • existing water pump impellor to be replaced and pump surfaces checked, lubricated and resealed
  • spare starter motor to be purchased
Existing Raytheon RL70 monochrome LCD chartplotter at helm to be replaced:
New Raymarine Lifetag Man Overboard System to be installed:
  • to be connected into the ship's new Raymarine E90W MFD
New Raymarine AIS500 Class B AIS transponder to be installed:
  • to be connected into the ship's new Raymarine E90W MFD
New GME MT403G Manual/Water activated EPIRB with internal GPS to be fitted.

  1. Good luck with your refitting. It reminds us of our days living literally on a boatyard in Alameda, California to fit all new stuff within the constrained time frame.

  2. Cool Beans. I sailed this boat as crew with Mitsuyo and Tony from SF down the w. coast of the U.S. and out to French Polynesia (via the Galapagos.)

    Sounds like some very nice upgrades to a nice boat.
